REWALSAR SPONSORSHIP SCHEME
Update October 2018
Dear Sponsors and Friends,
Through the generosity and support of many, the Rewalsar Sponsorship Scheme is now in its 5th year and is helping to support 88 Tibetans living in Rewalsar. Thank you very much one and all!
Our Contingency Fund is significantly helped by being able to claim Gift Aid on donations, which enables us to respond, at short notice, to unexpected and emergency needs, many of which are health related. This is also the fund we draw on to offer support to people who might have to wait a long time for a sponsor and who have pressing needs. To everyone who uses Gift Aid for their donation, please accept our thanks.
We’ve recently added another way of offering support:
Young Monks Project: Zigar Monastery is Lama’s monastery in Rewalsar. Just over two years ago, the monastery took in over 40 young boys who were either orphans or were from destitute families in Nepal and the Himalayan regions of India. The youngest at that time was 6. They are now training to be monks and are receiving a good education. It’s obviously beyond our capacity to find sponsors for such a large number of young monks so instead we have offered to send out a sum of money at Losar – Tibetan New Year which falls in February or March – that can be shared between all the young monks, so that at least everyone gets something. This year at Losar we sent out £550, which they used for winter clothing etc. and we hope to be able to do the same next year.

Introducing our ‘star fundraiser’, Rani:
Rani is ten, and for the last two years her family have sponsored a young girl in Rewalsar, who is about the same age as Rani.
During the summer holidays, Rani decided to have a stall outside her grandma’s house to raise money either for the girl her family sponsor or for anyone else in need. She sold things she made such as friendship bracelets, bookmarks, cookies and raspberry jam.
She managed to raise an impressive £40! Amazing!!
As it happened I had recently been contacted to see if we could help with a one off donation for a family with a young boy who had urgent
medical needs, so the money Rani raised found a very appreciative recipient straight away.
Many thanks to Rani for being so kind and inspiring!
